Match same-colored bugs in this fun arcade game with more than enough levels and secrets to keep you busy for a long time
Tumblebugs is a bubble/ball shooter that’s pretty much Zuma but with bugs. Ok, it’s absolutely Zuma but with beatles that want to enslave one another.
That game you’ve seen before but it looked a bit different
Tumblebugs is as much Zuma as it is Luxor, and there’s no denying that. However, Tumblebugs is the low budget version of the three. It looks bad for today’s screens but if you still own a CRT monitor that goes all the way up to a resolution of 600x800, then this game will look amazing. Also, you need to be in 2005.
There’s nothing really all that original to Tumblebugs except one or two power ups but even those don't make up for a game that’s obviously replicating other titles.
Don’t let the black bug block your brethren underground
In Tumblebugs, you have to do the exact same thing as in Zuma and Luxor. Shoot balls of a certain color and match them with others of the same one. Once three or more of the same kind are connected, they disappear.
You have to do this for each level until you eliminate all the balls. And yes, that does translate to repetitive gameplay, but on the good side, the levels look different every time. They don’t look good, just different. Moreover, you don’t even get the game modes that the other two have; it seems completely copying was not the plan.
It’s like a cheap knockoff
Despite its lack of originality, there is a lot to like about Tumblebugs. The cute graphics, storyline and ease of play all combine to make the game very addictive and engaging. People who love puzzle games are sure to get a kick out of Tumblebugs and it is sure to be a hit with younger players. Very colourful and engaging. To end, Tumblebugs is worth playing only if you’re in love with Zuma-like games. On its own, Tumblebugs is just a bad copy of a good game.
